MSRC/SCAG Last-Mile Program Offers $10 Million for Goods Movement

The MSRC has partnered with the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) for the Last Mile Freight Program. The Call for Projects is now open for the $10 million program to support “last mile” transportation technologies to help those in the goods movement industry invest in cleaner trucks and infrastructure.

The MSRC and SCAG launched this initiative to help reduce harmful emissions generated by the goods movement industry. Trucking in the South Coast Air Basin contributes to more than half of the NOx emissions and nearly 11 percent of PM2.5 emissions that cause smog and other hazardous air pollution. Phase 1 of the program is focused on the commercial deployment of zero- and near-zero emission heavy and/or medium-duty on-road trucks and supporting infrastructure.

“This program is a part of the MSRC’s recently concluded 3-year Work Program focused on cleaning up the goods movement industry,” noted MSRC Chair and Highland Mayor Pro Tem Larry McCallon. “The MSRC has invested more than $60 million to help reduce the harmful emissions caused by heavy-duty trucks traveling from the maritime ports to destinations far-and-wide throughout the South Coast region.”

“As consumers increasingly move toward electric and other clean technology vehicles, we must prepare our transportation system for zero-emission options,” said SCAG Executive Director Kome Ajise. “Clean trucks are here and this program will help increase their presence and viability on Southern California roads.”

The submittal deadline is July 14. For more information about the Last Mile Freight Program, please visit SCAG’s website at: https://scag.ca.gov/last-mile-freight-program
